Water softener installation in Coventry to cut limescale on taps, showers, kettles and pipes. We fit the softener on your incoming main and keep a drinking water tap at the kitchen sink.
A softener removes the calcium and magnesium that cause limescale, swapping them for sodium as water passes through a resin. The resin is cleaned now and then using salt, so you top up the salt every few weeks. Softened water feels smoother and lathers easily.
It's fitted on the incoming cold main, usually under the kitchen sink, in a utility room or in a garage. It needs a drain for the waste water it flushes out, and some models need a socket. We'll find the best spot for it when we visit.
Softened water contains a little more sodium, and it isn't recommended for making up baby formula. That's why we keep a separate hard water supply to the kitchen tap, or fit a dedicated drinking water tap, so you can still drink and cook with unsoftened water.
We start by looking at where your mains water comes in and where there's space for the softener and its drain. If you haven't chosen a model yet, we'll talk through the size you need based on your household and how much water you use.
On the day, we turn off the water, cut into the main and fit the softener with a bypass valve, so you can switch back to unsoftened water if needed. We connect the drain and overflow, set the controls and check every joint for leaks.
Tell us about the leak, fault or project. We aim to respond the same day, and there's no call-out charge.
We look at the job in person and give you a free, no-obligation quote before any work starts.
We finish the job, test everything we have fitted and certify the work before we hand it back to you.
It's worth it if you're fed up with limescale on taps, shower screens and kettles, or want to protect your heating and appliances. You can check your water hardness on your water supplier's website by entering your postcode, then decide if a softener makes sense.
It depends on the size of the softener, how hard your water is and how much your household uses. Most homes top up the block or tablet salt every few weeks. We'll show you how to check the level and add salt when we finish the installation.
Most adults can, but softened water has a little more sodium, and it shouldn't be used to make up baby formula. That's why we keep an unsoftened supply at the kitchen tap for drinking and cooking. If you're on a low-sodium diet, check with your doctor.
Some do and some don't. Electric softeners use a timer or meter run by a small power supply, so they need a socket nearby. Non-electric models run on water pressure alone. If yours needs power and there's no socket in the right place, we can add one.
